The paper attempted to propose a Climate Change Education Curriculum that is conceived to provide a clear understanding of the Climate Change phenomenon for students in Tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Nobody is left in doubt of the relevance of climate change education in Nigeria tertiary education system. Tertiary educational institutions are expected to play a proactive role in proffering solutions to climate change challenges facing Nigeria. What needs to be done is to harness resources...

Pakistan is vulnerable to wide range of hazards and rooting from weather, hydrological, geophysical and human induced disasters. In the past three decades, there has been an increase in the frequency and intensity of hydro-meteorological disasters including floods, extreme temperatures, torrential and prolonged rainfall, drought and storms. In this regard, efforts have been made by the government to endorse disaster and climate change education, and so far variety of initiatives and...

This study presents a comparison of classroom learning performance between courses taught in naturally ventilated (NV) rooms and air-conditioned (AC) rooms. This is done to examine effect of thermal comfort standard followed — PMV based or adaptive thermal comfort — on learning. The same group of students, attending different courses in the two classroom types over two years, was chosen to avoid inter-student difference of aptitude and ability. Performance was measured on basis of final...

This paper reviews empirical research on migration and land use impacts associated with climate change. Household migration arises due to changes in economic opportunities and climate amenities resulting from climate change. Throughout the paper, efforts are made to highlight key empirical findings as well as areas in need of additional research. The existing literature is discussed through the lens of reduced form and structural approaches paying particular attention to preference...

This article highlights the various methodologies adopted for the preparation of climate resilience strategy in seven cities (Surat, Indore, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Shimla, Bhubaneswar and Mysore) of India under the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) programme. It analyses these methodologies and the overall processes adopted in each of these cities for its potential for replication and brings out the inherent challenges, gaps and opportunities in achieving this.Discussions...

We present a microlevel study to simultaneously investigate the effects of variations in temperature and precipitation along with sudden natural disasters to infer their relative influence on migration that is likely permanent. The study is made possible by the availability of household panel data from Indonesia with an exceptional tracking rate combined with frequent occurrence of natural disasters and significant climatic variations, thus providing a quasi-experiment to examine the...

Climate change affects human health in various ways. Health planners and policy makers are increasingly addressing potential health impacts of climate change. Ethiopia is vulnerable to these impacts. Assessing students’ knowledge, understanding and perception about the health impact of climate change may promote educational endeavors to increase awareness of health impacts linked to climate change and to facilitate interventions. A cross-sectional study using a questionnaire was carried out...

A thermal comfort field study was conducted in an undergraduate laboratory classroom involving 121 subjects giving 338 responses. The building is located in a tropical climatic region of India. In addition to objective measurements of indoor climate, subjective responses on perceptions regarding thermal sensation, thermal preference, air velocity, and humidity were also collected. We present here an analysis of the subjective preferences and disposition of the occupants. While acceptability...

This study aimed to enhance the in-depth understanding of the contextual dimensions that shape the relationships between climate change communication approach and youth well-being. The study focused on university students who constitute the key stakeholders and future decision-makers and leaders for managing the long-term climate risks.A total of 10 focus group interviews were conducted with 117 undergraduate and graduate South African university students from over 12 universities located in...

This study presents thermal comfort and relevant parameters for kindergarten children in naturally ventilated classrooms in Seoul, Korea. The dry-bulb temperature, relative humidity, the airflow velocity, and the globe temperature were measured at 10 randomly selected kindergartens from April to June, 2013, and a survey was conducted three times a day for 119 kindergarten children (age: 4–6) to investigate their thermal comfort, clothing insulation, and metabolism. The effects of these...

Learning the hard way? Adapting to climate risk in TanzaniaSkjeflo, S. W., & Westberg, N. B. - 2014
We use recent panel data on Tanzanian farm households to investigate how previous exposure to weather shocks affects the impact of a current shock. Specifically, we investigate the impact of droughts on agricultural outcomes and investments in children's health, measured by their short- and long-term nutritional status. As expected, we find that droughts negatively impact yields, and more so the more severe the drought is. We also find suggestive evidence that the more shocks a household has...

The study investigated the awareness and sources of climate change information among the secondary school students in Nairobi County. The objectives of the study were to find out whether students and teachers are aware of climate change and their sources of information on climate change. It also investigated the extent to which climate change information has been covered in the integrated environmental education. The study applied the descriptive survey design. The target population...

A predictive models were developed to determine the thermal comfort level for the academic classroom by using artificial neural networks (ANNs). The paper reports experimental and theoretical analysis on a problem of achieving a desired thermal comfort level. The proposed method focused on the classical artificial (feed forward) neural networks (ANN) and the time-series NARX feedback neural networks to achieve the thermal comfort assessed using the predicted mean vote (PMV). The field...
