Abstract
More than half of the global population lives in cities, thus forcing cities to expand in order to accommodate the huge populations. Unfortunately, this urban growth has been suggested as a major cause for the majority of harmful emissions that pose a big threat to resources and the environment. With this in mind, it is important for cities to “grow” smartly, ensuring that city growth does not come in the way of the livelihood and well-being of the future generations. The city of Oslo, Norway, realized this and came up with a number of transformative urban projects that ended up being quite successful. The European Green Capital of 2019 started by effectuating the climate and energy strategy in 2016 (European Union et al. 2018).
